Stemming from Sweden death metal band Amon Amarth is no stranger to big stages and epic performances throughout their 21 year career. Over the past few years the band has picked up international steam with their latest new release “Twilight of the Thunder God,” debuting at number 48 on the Billboard 200.

After that the band decided to rerecord one of it’s first studio albums “Once Sent From The Golden Hall,” which was released in March of 2009. The album which featured all eight original tracks also included one bonus track and a performance of eight live tracks.

In an interview with The Metal Web lead singer Johan Hegg said of the bands style “We play Death Metal. We write about Vikings so therefor some refer us to Viking metal, but I have no idea what that is. I can't imagine the Viking’s veer into metal at all except on the swords and stuff. And musically, I guess they only played these strange lip instruments and some bongos or whatever.” Writing mostly about Norse Myths and the life and death of Viking’s will give a band that title.

Through a steady following on Myspace and a number of American tours the group now hopes to extend their United States following with a tour featuring opening acts Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch and Lazarus AD. Lazarus AD, also on Metal Blade (records) has just released it’s latest album “The Onslaught,” which was mixed and mastered by famed metal guitarist James Murphy, known for his work in the bands Death and Testament.

After finishing their United States tour at the very beginning of May the group will make it’s first trip to South America playing countries such as Argentina and Chile.
