Dance Gavin Dance came together in 2005, in Sacramento, California after the dissolution of several other bands, including Farewell Unknown, Ghost Runner on Third, Atherton and Five Minute Ride. With the line-up changing a few more times the band finally released their self produced EP “Whatever I Say is Royal Ocean” on November 14th 2006, through Oregon based post-hardcore label, Rise Records.

Entering the studio once again in January of 2007 with producer Kris Crummet, (Drop Dead Gorgeous) they released their first full length album, “Downtown Battle Mountain,” on May 15th 2007. In August of 2007, Sean O’Sullivan (guitarist) left the band due to personal conflicts and only three months later, lead singer Jonny Craig also left the band. Sean was replaced with Zac Garren, a merchandise guy for Rise Records, and after countless auditions Jonny was replaced by Kurt Travis, formally of Five Minute Ride.

Dance Gavin Dance entered studios for a third time in April of 2008. They released their self-titled album on August 19th 2008. The album was Smartpunk.com’s “Smartpick of the Month” for the month of August. After this album was released original band members Jonathan Mess and Eric Lodge left the band respectively. They have since been replaced with Will Swan and Jason Ellis.

With almost a brand new line up from when Dance Gavin Dance began in 2005, the band entered the studio once again in February of 2009. Their upcoming album, “Happiness” will be released on June 9, 2009. On this album you can hear the current band members, Will Sawn (guitar/screams), Kurt Travis (Lead Vocals), Zac Garren (guitar), Tim Feerick (bass), and Matt Mingus (drums) pumping out what will be another post-hardcore hit.

The band is scheduled to play the first half of this year’s Van’s Warped Tour, from June 26th through July 23rd hitting states like California, Texas, Canada and most of the East Coast. They are also currently on tour with A Skylit Drive, Attack Attack, I See Stars, and In Fear and Faith hitting the Webster Underground on April 28.
