These days, saying your a rock band from Brooklyn doesn't say much except that your trying to fit into a certain scene. In an age in which every band and their mothers band is coming out of the New York Borough, Kevin Devine brings an interesting blend of contemporary songwriting and hard hitting instrumentals to the table.

“I used to play in a band called Miracle of ‘86, a Replacements-ish, kind of screamy rock thing,” he says. “And I dug it, but I was also writing these folkie songs that weren’t really going to fly in that band, so I started to make this other thing. And both of them were doing well, and that was a really cool period of time.”

Personally, the title of Kevin’s first band, Miracle of ’86 hits me on a personal level being a die hard New York Mets fan myself. Kevin also spent some time in the traveled Staten Island based band Delusion, before forming Kevine Devine and the Goddamn Band.

Since the early 2000’s, Kevin has been in and out of record labels originally signing on with Capitol. After being dropped in the merger between majors Capitol and Virgin, Kevin took his first album and formed a strong following on the heals of a tour with Brand New. During that time he released Albums such as “Make the Clocks Move,” and “Put Your Ghost to Rest.”

The latter album contained the single “Buried by the Buzz,” among other politically driven songs. One real standout song by Kevin is the Phil Ochs cover of “Love Me, I’m a Liberal.” This song is full of political satire and really defines what Kevin Devine is all about from a songwriting standpoint.

Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band are ready to promote their upcoming release of “Brothers Blood,” with a tour that comes to Webster Theater on June 5th, 2009.
