After being MIA for the longest period since becoming a band in 1999, Taking Back Sunday is back in full swing, with a North American tour and a new album. Throughout their years together, Taking Back Sunday has worked very hard to gain the success that they have achieved.

When the band formed in 1999, they began working on an EP that did not gain very much notoriety. Jesse Lacey (Brand New) and Mike O’Connell left the band in the midst of recording their EP, posing a rough start for the band. Adam Lazzara was brought on as bass player and after yet another line-up change was moved to lead singer. He has been the band’s lead man ever since.

They released their first album “Tell All Your Friends” in 2002 on Victory Records, leading to success in the alternative rock world. In 2003 Taking Back Sunday came close to breaking up when they lost back-vocalist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper, as they left the band to form Straylight Run. After taking on Fred Mascherino as back-up singer and guitarist they began their rise up the musical ladder.

Taking Back Sunday released their sophomore album “Where You Want to Be” in July of 2004 and went on to open up for Blink-182 as well as co-headline the Vans Warped Tour. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and sold over 163,000 copies. They gained even more mainstream exposure after appearing on the popular late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live. Their music has been featured on the soundtracks for movies such as Spiderman 2, Elektra and Fantastic 4 and more recently on the Transformers soundtrack.

On April 25, 2006 they released their third album, “Louder Now” on major record label, Warner Bros. Records. The album incorporated the more energetic feeling that they convey on stage during their live shows. As of June of 2008, this album has sold 900,000 copies, according the Nielsen SoundScan. After the release of this album they were featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and an episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Taking Back Sunday has also released a CD/DVD documentary titled “Louder Now: PartOne” and another one in 2007 titled, “Louder Now: PartTwo”. In support of “Louder Now” they appeared on the American leg of the Live Earth concert in 2007. They also toured with Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance in addition to the Bamboozle Festival, Vans Warped Tours, as well as their own headlining tours.

In October 2007, they announced that guitarist Fred Mascherino was leaving the band to pursue his solo career, The Color Fred. Taking Back Sunday played a surprise show in addition to opening for close friends My Chemical Romance at Madison Square Garden in 2008.

They went into the studio to record their fourth album, which will be titled, “New Again” and is set to be released on June 2, 2009. They played The Bamboozle Left in early April and will also play The Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey in early May. They are embarking on a North American tour in support of their new album, and will play at the Webster Theater on June 25 with Anberlin and Envy on the Coast.
