When I was first introduced to The Cab a few years ago all I knew was a simple song called "Bounce." Of course this song was the smash single from the bands debut record "Whisper War," and along with some other hot singles the band has climbed into the pop spotlight. Starting off in late 2005 the Las Vegas natives the band mulled around for a few months before their demo reached the hands of Spencer Smith (of Panic at the Disco) at a Cobra Starship show.

Weeks later the band was signed to Decaydance Record and Blender magazine named them #75 on their Top 100 Hot Report. This ranking was significant because the band had yet to wide release any material. "Whisper War," was released during the spring of 2008 and featured a slew of cameos from Patrick Stump and Brandon Urie. The first time I saw The Cab a few months ago at Webster Theater I was pretty impressed with their ability to hold the crowd and actually play their instruments. When I interviewed Cash Coligan, bassist in the band prior to their last appearance in Hartford he said "...I just hope that people look at the instrumentation and see what it is for what it is, not just everyone at the show jumping up and down not really listening to the music."

There is something to be said about a pop band caring more about instrumentation than going crazy in the stands. In looking at the breakout album by The Cab it is clear that they draw influences from a variety of places throughout pop music. If you want to really get an idea for what the band sounds like check out “That ’70’s Song,” and “One of Those Nights,” (which was another single from the album). Since playing in Hartford the band has rocked Bamboozle and shared the stage with NeverShoutNever and We The Kings. They roll back into the Connecticut music scene at Webster Theater on July 17th alongside Rocket To the Moon and The Summer Set.
